JANEY was selected to oversee construction of the Mattapan Community Health Center (MCHC). The project is 63,000 gsf new construction, four-story building, which is L-shaped on the first two floors and rectangular on the two floors above, located in a pedestrian area. The mission of Mattapan MCHC is to improve the health and thereby help enhance the quality of life for diverse residents of Mattapan and surrounding communities by providing exceptional primary care and preventive health and social services. This new 63,000 square foot, 4-story community health center forms an anchoring icon for Mattapan Square, the commercial heart of one of Boston’s urban neighborhoods. The project has become a stimulus not only for the large-scale urban planning in progress but also as an economic boost to the neighborhood by bringing improved local healthcare and employment opportunities. The center provides comprehensive primary healthcare along with social services and community space for the neighborhood. The center’s architectural design reflects the center’s connective role within the community with a transparent central volume that provides views to and from the surrounding city streets.
